What is Bayside Business District?
Changes in zoning mean opportunity for local business
In 2006 Bayside City Council rezoned the area it calls Bayside Business Employment Area (BBEA) that is situated across the suburbs of Sandringham, Cheltenham and Highett.
This area is centred on Bay Road and extends east to Jack and Graham Roads, west to George Street and Advantage Road and south to Tulip Street.
Prior to 2006 BBEA was zoned Industrial 1 and as such the land was only suitable for warehousing and heavy industry. However with the rezoning the majority of the land changed to Business 3 which allows much greater flexibility in terms of land use and can accommodate offices, showrooms and warehouses or any combination of these.
The rezoning of BBEA has re-energized the area, with many developers capitalising upon the increased flexibility and bringing many new business premises in the area.
Bayside Business District is a marketing initiative developed by five of the Bayside Business Employment Area's leading property developers:
- Leighton Properties
- Hallmarc
- A director of JLR Property Group
- Rietmans
- Shenfield Property Construction
These companies have joined forces to spread the word about the advantages of doing business in Bayside.
